When you’re heavily pregnant, and overdue – especially for the first time – the word ‘induction’ can send a shiver down your spine!
Becoming a mother means venturing into the unknown for a lot of us, and as a person that always liked to know what’s what, I found that really difficult at first. I always liked to have a plan, and having to be induced was the first time I realised that my baby had plans of her own! I did learn to cope with that – embrace and enjoy it even – but at the time it was a shock to the system! Which is why I thought it would be nice to gather other induction experiences and give all you lovely expectant mums out there an idea of what to expect – to remove an element of the unknown from the experience.
We asked members of our Bump, Baby and You private support group to share their own induction stories. Read them below…
Jessica Woods:
I was induced at 37+3 due to reduced movement. I went in and was examined and I was already 2cm!
They popped my waters at about 3:15 and half an hour later my contractions started to be regular, then nearly 6 hours later my little girl was born.
It was so quick and I was really lucky I didn’t need the pessary or gels or the drip!
Jadee Hughes:
I was induced at 38+1 due to constant reduced movement from my lb.
I had the pessary at 11:30pm on the Friday, started contracting by 12:30 – they got really bad at about 4am I got checked at 8am and I was 5cm. Got took to delivery suite and he was here by 9:29am.
All done on no pain relief. Best experience ever!!
Bethany Collings:
I was induced a week prior to due date.
I went in on the Friday, had the first pessary at 6pm. Then the next day at 2am, I had irregular contractions and was on and off. Got sent downstairs to have a shot of diamorphine and I was gone.
I woke up at 10am for them to check me and the contractions had stopped. Still only 1cm so I asked if I could go out for a bit. They agreed so I headed off to Morrisons across the road! I was howling down the aisles with pain lol!
Come 2pm and they checked again, still nothing. Lots of women were having babies so she explained I was in a waiting list for my waters to be popped. At 6pm they popped my waters and I was in full blown labour, couldn’t hack it for long and after two hours had the epidural. I then slept through and at 10pm they woke me, went back to sleep and at 2am told me I was 6cm. At 4am I was told I can push, my epidural wore off at this stage and I was on gas and air.
Phoebe got stuck but they didn’t believe me. I turned around and told someone to f*** off out and grab the delivery team. She came in and explained she was going to do a forceps. I agreed (begged) and it turned out that Phoebe had her fist to face so as I pushed, she pushed back in.
She was born at 06:06am and weighing 7lbs 5oz.

Jordanna Cook:
I went in on a Tuesday evening, and had the first pessary at 7pm. Woke in the early hours with contractions, but they faded off. Second pessary, and again they started but faded. I was left for a whole day with nothing as they were busy….
Long story short I ended up having five pessaries, they couldn’t break my waters, I was having really bad contractions but wasn’t dilating. So on the Saturday after four very long painful days I ended up having to have a c-section – and Meredith was born at 13.35pm! As of 12/03/16 she’s now nearly 18 weeks!
Gabrielle-Luca Antionette
I was induced as part of the Phoenix trial for Preeclampsia. After two weeks in hospital I was induced at 37 weeks, the midwife said my cervix was quite high and far back but she managed to give me a sweep and I had a show, she inserted the 24 hour pessary. The following day I had period pains all day, unable to walk at times. When the pessary was taken out a midwife examined me and told me I hadn’t progressed very well. I was very upset as I didn’t want to have any more intervention. I woke 6:30am the following morning with intense contractions, lasting over a minute and only 2 minutes apart. I used a tens machine for two hours then had a bath, the doctors did their rounds and said they were going to leave me as I clearly was in labour, I used my yoga ball and husband massaged me, I was given some painkillers, at 14:30 my waters broke and I was 8cm dilated, I was taken over to the labour ward and was examined again and was 9cm. I had gas and air and my little girl the was born at 18:39, I had a small cut but had no instrumental intervention.
Samantha Buse:
I went in at 40+4 to be induced. Cervix was quite thin so they did a sweep (my 5th) which broke my waters but didn’t start labour. 24 hours later labour still hadn’t started so I skipped all the pessaries and had the drip straight away. Immediately I started having contractions and my little girl was born 6hr 30 mins later. She turned back to back which was horrendous but luckily came out face down. My perfect girly Matilda!!xxx
Kayleigh Thompson:
I went in at 6am on the Thursday, had the first lot of gel at about 7.30am, 2nd lot at 2pm. I had started getting very small pains 5 min apart… waters started trickling at 3.15, put onto drip at 6pm, examined at 9.45pm and was 5cm at 10.05pm . I was telling the midwife I was ready to push to which she said oh no we are way off! Persuaded her to examine me at 10.15 and yep I was fully dilated and half an hour later my little girl was here. The worst part of being induced was my contractions which were always very close together – they started at 5 mins apart and just got stronger and stronger. I didn’t want an epidural, they wouldn’t give me pethidine as my little girls heart rate had dropped a couple of times and gas and air made me sick so I was riding solo!

Jane Conaghan:
Inducted 3pm on a Sunday, gave birth 5am on Tuesday. Two pessaries – I refused the third one as cervix was completely thinned out so it would have served no purpose other than to give me pessary pains on top of labour pains. The best advice I received was that I had the right to refuse pessaries. I was moved to the labour ward at 6:30pm on the Monday. Requested an epidural before I even went too make sure I got one. Still had to wait until 12:30 am. As there were emergency c sections and no anesthetists available.
My advice to anyone getting induced – don’t be a martyr! You are going through it, if u can’t cope take pain relief. Baby was born with forceps within 15 minutes of pushing as cord around neck and was distressed.

Lynsey MacDonald:
I was induced at 37+2 due to reduced movement. Admitted at midnight on the Thursday and the monitor showed tightenings so instead of the pessary I had a sweep. Taken to labour ward at lunch time Friday to have waters broken…hilarity ensued. God knows what people thought out in the corridor! Between that and the faff with the maternity pads and those net pants (one of which pinged off into the loo), I was keeping my midwife amused! At 4pm I was put on the hormone drip. At 6.30pm I went from being sore to all of a sudden sweating and feeling really sick so my midwife gave me a little morphine. While I was getting the morphine I had a contraction that made me feel like I needed to pee so went to the loo with midwife keeping her eye on me. Sat there a little while and nothing happened. She asked me if I had done anything and I said no…then I kind of pushed. Morphine was kicking in and started to feel a little dopey, my midwife was trying to get me to get back on the bed and I told her I was comfy sitting on the loo haha. Made another attempt to push at which point my midwife managed to get me back onto the bed and next thing I was pushing away. The other midwife had to phone my boyfriend as I made him go to work that day thinking it was all going to take much longer. He turned up at 7pm and our little boy shot out at 7.28pm. I did end up with a 3rd degree tear but to be honest I didn’t care at all. My boyfriends favourite bit was in the penultimate push (I was aware baby’s heartbeat slowing after each push because of the morphine) I exclaimed ‘let’s do this!’…I have no recollection of this haha. Despite the tear I found the whole thing very positive and everyone was lovely. It certainly hasn’t put me off having another baby!

I started to be induced at 40+1 weeks due to reduced movements. Had a pessary done on the Wednesday, taken out and another one on the Friday while waiting for a room on delivery suite to have my waters broken. Taken down to DS at 6am Saturday morning, had waters broken at 8.30am and was only 1cm. Told to go for a walk as i wasnt in labour yet but contractions started straight away and my daughter was born at 9.30am.
Aww… glad your daughter arrived safely in the end! They do their own thing in their own time don’t they!?
I was induced at 40+6, had the pessary inserted at 3pm, by 5pm was getting period like pain and cramps, was taken to delivery suite at 8.30pm, had to have a hormone drip to slow down my contractions as they were coming to fast, little one was born at 11.40pm after going from 4cm to pushing in 1.5 hours! All done with just gas and air! Happened so quick!
I had a lovely induction
Induced at 41+5
Had the pessary was checkled 24 hours later and I was 4cm went to the labour suite checked and I was 6cm went into the birthing pool and a few hours later he was born… 5hrs 26 in total and weighting a whopping 9lbs 11 ?? the pool rocks
Sounds fab! I must admit, I was very tempted by the pool. Maybe next time…
I was started after a my scan at 39 weeks due to reduced fluid. Waters were broke at 1cm and contractions started immediately, within 5 minutes the midwife had pressed emergency buzzer and I was taken for an emergency c-section (cord was tight around babys neck) Not the ideal first birth experience but it was what was best for my wee boy. Scan was at 10.45 in the morning, son was born at 16.59 🙂 a very fast and strange day lol
I was induced at 39 weeks due to having gestational diabetes. I went in on the Friday morning and had my first pessary put in at lunch time and was told I had to wait and see what happened for the next 24 hours. In this time I had a few niggle mainly in my back because my daughter was back to back. 24 hours later the pessary was removed and I had to wait another 24 hours before they could put the next one in. All contractions had stopped, Sunday arrived time for pessary number 2. Again this had to stay in for 24 hours, the contractions in this time were more intense but I did think if this is labour then this is easy. Monday arrives the pessery is removed again and I get examined, I was told I’m barely 1cm but the doctor thinks she can break my waters. However there is no room in the delivery suit so I have to wait.
All day we hung around waiting the 11pm came and they said they were going to take me round to break my waters, as you can imagine after seeing everyone else leave to have their babies me and my partner were so excited. When we got to our room they made a really uncomfortable attempt to break my waters, as I was barley 1cm to do this was difficult. I got told to have a walk round and hopefully they had Managed to nick them. 45 minutes later and no water leakage, they didn’t want to attempt again to back to the ward we went heads down and deflated.
The next morning we was up early and taken back at 7am for the doctor to break my waters, and he was successful again we felt like we were getting somewhere now. I was placed on a drip to encourage the contractions again, this was increased in strength every 30mins. The contractions were more noticeable than before but again I didn’t think they were that bad. Come 5pm I was examined again to see if we could put a cap on baby’s head as she was so mobile and hard to keep trace of her heart. They next thing I hear the nurse tell my Lerner to go and get something out of the draw and she tells me to get the gas and air. You have got to be kidding me right another pocket of waters is still remaining. Well what happens next was the worst, once they were broken my pain went from 0-10 in a second this was due to the drip I was on. I cried and begged for all the pain relief they had. Several hours later of intense contractions the doctor that broke my waters had come back to examine me, you can imagine my joy to see him again. He told me I was barely 2cm and after all this time and effort I needed a c-section. Well I don’t really remember much after that apart from seeing our beautiful little girl for the first time and then the rest didn’t matter.
Went into hospital at 40+8 with reduced movement for 20 mins of routine monitoring, but was told baby was beginning to go into distress so I had to be kept in and induced. My waters were broken and I was told to wait and see what happened… Nothing happened and I was put on the drip. I was assessed at 21.35 and was only 2cm, so the midwife told me to try and sleep as baby wasn’t likely to come until the next day. Over the next hour the contractions got worse and worse until I felt I needed the loo and couldn’t wait any more, slowly waddled off and accidentally knocked the internal heart monitor off the babies head – a doctor came to re attach and told me I was actually 10 centimetres!! Fortunately my other half walked in with the coffees at this exact moment! By 23.07 I was cuddling our beautiful daughter ❤️! Less than 90 minutes of labour and no pain relief… And my other half and mum enjoyed their hot coffees ?
I was induced at 42 weeks. Had been 1-2 cms dilated from 38 weeks. Had my first pessary at 2pm Saturday 10th October 2015. Had second pessary at 6pm and still 1-2 cms. At 10.30pm my contractions started and were coming thick and fast. Third pessary was due at midnight and after being on the monitor for 5 hours with an active baby, constant contractions and needing the loo I finally got the 3rd pessary at 5am. Partner arrived back at 10am to find me contracting 3/4 times in 10 mins. No one checked on me at all the full Sunday, paced the corridors, rocked on the ball and tried a bath. At 8pm I was starting to panic that my partner was going to be sent home. Sent him to ask a midwife to check my progress. She took one look at me and said I needed labour ward however didn’t get there until 2am. They broke my waters and started the drip at 2.30am. I refused all pain relief and was calm throughout. At 9.30am they lost babies heartbeat and had to put a monitor directly on his scalp. This still wasn’t picking up his heart rate so they began to take blood samples from his scalp. The second sample indicated a problem and I was rushed to theatre with 15 mins to get the baby out. My son was born at 10.09am on the 12/10/15 weighing 9lbs 3ozs. He contracted sepsis and I was seconds away from a heart attack in recovery and then was readmitted 2 weeks later with sepsis myself however the whole experience was a calm and enjoyable one which enabled me to quash a lot of fears. Would do it all over again exactly the same.
I was induced because i had gestational diabetes think at 38 weeks i loved being pregnant and wished i had a normal pregnancy but had various strange complications and illnesses along the way i used to joke and say i wished i had a bit of back ache etc i was in hosp for a werk before anything started to happen after the first and second pessary went in on sat and was taken down the following sat a werk later i had an epidural because of the diabetes etc and was in labour for 13 hours ! Babies heartrate kept dropping docs were going to do an emergency cesarian but then she arrived at 13:10 with just 2 pushes ,i was really poorly due to placenta injection and she was poorly for a week in childrens then we were ok and i was taken into hospital with a severe headache and high bp was heartbreaking being away from my baby for a week it wasnt easy at all but im so thankful we have her it took us 8 years of trying 4 miscariages to finally get our dream she really is our angel
I was induced at 38+4 due to polyhydramnios which lead to a diagnosis of gestational diabetes.Went in on the Friday at 8 and had the first stage of induction which is 24 hours, countless times walking around the hospital and up and down the road I had irregular contractions then I went to sleep woke up the next morning and gone! Had a check and I was 1 cm… so next stage of induction which is a 6 hour tablet and the same happened minor the contractions so another dose happened always being tied to a ECG machine to check on my little one. So Sunday afternoon I had a check and I was 2 cm! Little but some progress. I had waters popped, drip inserted to kick off the contractions I managed 7 hours of pure hell. I gave up the ghost and got the epidural even then it was horrible as I couldn’t eat nothing due to my diabetes during labour. Checks after checks I only got to 6 cm over 3 days. My baby girl was born via emergency c sectional 8.48pm as she was wedged sideways in my hip all I can remember of the c section is her first cry and her coming over to me and she put her hand on my face then passed out. best and worse experience
I got induced 40+3 due to reduced movements.
I had a pessary at 9pm Saturday night, woke up around 3am for the loo didn’t actually realise it was my waters lol!
Examined and was 2-3cm
Went to delivery suite and went on a birthing ball which slowed down contractions so came off that and was put on a drip to speed up labour.
Examined again at 6am still only 4cm then had my fore waters broken, within 30 mins I was 10cm. That’s when I first felt contractions which was just bad back pain!
Felt the urge to push and baby was out in 7mins of pushing:) which isn’t bad considering this is baby number 1!
So from being induced to baby in my arms was only 12 hours X
I went in on a Wednesday to check blood pressure and my urine, because i had preeclampsia.i was 39+3
They kept me in because got worse from previous day.
Got a gel pessary, after 6hrs nothing changed,so i got that night one more, again nothing changed 6hrs later.than on the Thursday i had other one gel pessary, and again nothing changed,i was still 1cm and my cervix was very high in back.
Friday they wanted to gave me one more gel,i refused, asked for broke water and put me on the drip.
So friday afternoon 3pm they broke water, put me on drip.
At 9pm i was 3cm dialated, than 2am Saturday morning 4cm,than 5am nothing changed,as since 9pm i needed to sit on bed coz they put a heartbeat sensor on baby head, because she was always moving off from the ordinary monitor and they wanted a better track of heartbeat what she had absolutely fine all the way.
Saturday 5am when nothing changed i asked for a C section, because we wast progressing in 3days,and baby was back to back so wast helping me at all.i was worn out by then from the 3days lack of sleep and suffering.
And i didnt wanted epidural.
So toke me down theatre and got spinal block what i had planned in my birth plan if the worst happens and i need c section.
6.42 my beautiful 8pound 3oz girl was delivered healthy, and finally was over all this suffering.
Sunday afternoon we was at home, and i recovered pretty fast from c section.
It was the best decision i made, and i dont regret it,i would do the same way if i have to.
I got induced at 37+3 due to static growth, i didnt need a pessary as i was already 3cm dilated, so i got my waters broken & 12 minutes later I Had my baby boy in my arms weighing a chunky 7lb 9oz!
defiantly more painful being induced than my first, being a natural labour but I can’t really complain at a 12 minutes ?
Wow! Once he decided to arrive he didn’t hang about did he!? Well done momma!
I was induced a little over a week ago at 38 +2 for SGA with the fear of baby stopping growing. I went in on the Thursday morning, had a small sweep was told was already 2cm and that I wouldn’t need the pessary so was put on a waiting list to have my waters broken. Left all day and night to walk the grounds etc. Friday morning arrived and was told I would be going down to labour ward later that day to have my waters broken. At around 3pm 2 midwives came to collect me and my husband, took us to the delivery room. Here the midwife checked me again and said I was almost 3cm, gave me a very good sweep and broke my waters. Within 10 mins I started have very mild contractions, within an hour I started getting stronger contractions which began to become very painful (gas and air was no longer enough) so i was given a shot of diamorphine, and 3 hours in a felt the need to push. 4 hours and 20 mins after having waters broken I was lay holding my tiny baby in my arms. After having a baby a few years ago without being induced I would say I preferred that labour to this but this labour was definitely quicker and everything progressed a lot faster. And I was home by that Saturday lunch time. I would definitely opt to being induced again just because I felt I had a positive experience the midwife didn’t touch me at all during the pushing stage just left me to do it on my own and I came away with just a minor tear needing 4 small stitches.
I was induced at 42 weeks, I read all these scary articles about what can go wrong post-term and how induced labours can be more painful etc… literally feared it!! I am a FTM and my labour lasted 5hr 30 in total, I think everyone feels pain differently but I did end up needing an epidural. The labour seemed to go by very quickly after that (didn’t slow it down) I went from 3cm to 9cm in no time at all…. so don’t fear it, every birth is different including those induced.
My baby did end up aspirating meconium which isn’t all that rare post term but the paediatricians were superb and I really couldn’t fault them.
Very true about every experience being different… and great advice about not fearing induction! Glad baby is well now. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I went into hospital due to preeclampsia at 40 + 2 on Tuesday 23rd Feb . The next day they gave me a pesaary waited a few hours and nothing! They left me another day just being monitored as they were busy. Thursday 24th I had gel and waited another day and still no movement from baby. Over the weekend I was given another lot of gel and still nothing! Monday 28th they took me down to delivery and the midwife just managed to break my waters but it was very difficult! Still no movement from baby! I was then given the hormone drip at 10 o clock that night, things were moving along but not very quickly. Ended up having a epidural and by 5 o clock on Tuesday 29th Feb I was stuck at 7cm. I was then rushed to have an emergency c section as baby had an infection. He was born at 6:09. My little leap baby.
Aww bless him. He must’ve been really comfy in there and didn’t want to come out! Glad he’s ok now though!
I went in hospital to be induced at 42 weeks. I was only 1cm dilated so had a pessary at 10am and by 7pm I was 3cm. 8.30pm come and I was 9cm already! By 11.55pm I was moved to the labour ward where I was had a very exhausting and painful labour. 5am the doctors come into assist as I had been non stop pushing for 2 hours and he wouldn’t come out. They could see his head but he kept sliding back up. In the end he was delivered by the suction method and at 5.51am my baby boy was born weighing a whoping 8lb 12oz. I lost over a litre of blood after but they managed to stop it. Safe to say I was very weak and fragile for the next 2 months!
I was induced at 39 + 2 weeks as my waters had broken on the Monday and no labour signs so on Tuesday I had a pessary at midnight and I was only 1cm dilated at this point. Was examined at 6am and told I was only 4cm dilated and would need to go on a drip. Took an epidural as lg went back to back and drip was causing contractions every two mins! fell asleep and woke up to be told I was 9 cm and would need to push soon! A few mins later i was begging to push but they kept saying no, i need to wait….finally i was allowed to push! They allowed me to push for the guts of 2 hours and at this point I was begging them to make it stop….give me a section or something (had been awake for 3 days at this point!) but they continued to let me push. At this point a friend, who is a gynae surgeon heard i was in delivery, popped in to see how i was, took one look (I think i was crying at this point lol) at me and said we’ll get her out now! 10 mins later my lg was chucked onto my belly via forceps. What could have been an awful experience was saved by someone with a bit of sense and although I didn’t get my lovely natural birth I would do it all over again! To any first time mums…..hold on to your birth plans very loosely and don’t rule out any pain relief!
Induced on my due date due to suspected pre eclampsia due to high BP and 3+ protein in urine although BP wasn’t scarily high. Pessary inserted afternoon of Tuesday. Constant contractions overnight but when checked not even 1cm dilated so unable to break waters. Given a rest day but still contracting till second pessary given on Thursday or Friday (can’t quite remember correctly) as no progress made. I was still contracting regularly and painfully (he was back to back) but I wasn’t progressing well. Finally able to break waters on sat at 5:30pm. Left on induction ward for 10hrs although I was supposed to be put on a hormone drip 2hrs after waters breaking. Finally get on labour ward and beg for epidural as couldn’t take the pain. Finally my baby boys heart rate is monitored and he’s in distress end up with emergency section early Sunday morning. I was told at the start of the process you’ll either be fast or furious with labour or it’ll be slow and extremely painful process. Alas for me it was the latter!
I was induced at 40+3. I originally had gone in to hospital due to reduced movements and then ended up being induced due to high blood pressure.
From the beginning I had decided that induction was the last thing I wanted and was very reluctant to it when they suggested it.
The pessary was put in at 10:30pm on the Friday evening, and my contractions started at 11:15pm, every 10minutes or so. By 6 am they were back to back and at 9am on the Saturday morning my beautiful daughter was born having had no pain relief at all because it was all progressing too fast!
My ideal labour of having a water birth had completely gone out the window, but it was definitely all worth it!
I was induced at 41 + 2, originally scheduled to be induced on Thursday but had reduced movements the Sunday before. Went into hospital who examined me and did a sweep (the first didn’t work) at that time I was 1-2cm so they kept me in to be induced on Monday morning.
Monday MW tried to pop my waters, couldn’t so went to get someone else to try, when she was out the room luckily they went of their own accord! Left me for an hour to see if contractions would start but they didn’t so at 0800 I was put on the drip straight away. The first couple of hours were fine, just normal strong period pains but then babies movements slowed and his heart rate became quite erratic.
Baby was then constantly monitored and I was left on the drip. MW checked and I had dilated to 3cm so I wasn’t going anywhere quickly! After 4 hours the pains got unbearable so I had gas and air (which I thought was useless) and then some pethidine which I thought was a lot less useless and made me quite giddy. After another hour I started to feel like I wanted to push, the midwife checked me again and I was still only 3cm and then they lost babies heart rate. Consultant came in to check babies oxygen levels on his head to then discover he was back to back which explained all the pain I was in. They left me for another hour to see if baby would turn himself, at this time they had turned the drip off because he wasn’t coping well at all but I was still getting contractions. Constant with no let up, when I got to the end of one the next one would start.
I was then violently sick and just begging for someone to get him out! Luckily I wasn’t very aware that they were worried about Him- if I’d have known I would have been more stressed.
At 1800 the MW examined me again and before I knew it the whole team were in getting me changed and ready for theatre. My OH was ushered away to get into his scrubs.
In theatre the MW was very stern with the surgical team who were very lackadaisical as I was quickly turning into an emergency. At 18:25 they made the first incision and at 18:35 my little boy was born. He was blue, floppy and not breathing. The alarm was sounded and all these Drs came rushing in to work on him. At this time I was still spaced out and didn’t realise exactly what was happening, but I could see on my OH face there was something wrong. I told the anaesthetist I was going to be sick, he told me it’s just the drugs until I was sick all over his croqs! That’ll teach him to not believe me! I then haemorrhaged, so along with our baby being worked on I was then loosing too much blood. My partner didn’t know what to do! They fixed me and 2 hours later I heard my boy cry for the first time!! He had a bit of a time of it but he was just too comfy to be moved.
He is a happy healthy 15 week old with no lasting problems and he is more precious than I could ever imagine.
Although a scary experience, I was in great hands and I would do it all again, except the worry of Charlie being poorly, in a heart beat ?
After having 3 sweeps over a week, at 40 +6 I was told I was to stay in due to high bp. I was already 5cm at this point, but there had been signs of contractions or signs of anything happening. I was left for a day, with constant tests/checks and was told by a doctor the following afternoon that they were going to skip the gel and they gave me something else instead. Within two hours my contractions started with some force 1 minute long , 1 minute apart. 2 hours later I was taken down to the delivery suite after complaining that I needed to push, after getting to my room I pushed for 40mins on Gas & air and my baby girl was born in her waters, as they never broke.
Went into shock after due to severe dehydration, so had to stay in for a few days, but bubba was perfectly well! A very quick and stressful time, but it was worth it!!
Wow, amazing stories.
For me my waters broke prematurely at 4am at 36 +1. I was woken up feeling I needed to pee. I had GBS ( group b streptococcus ) so baby was at risk of infection. They didn’t believe my waters had broken and I had one painful internal examination at 6pm.
I needed atleast two lots of antibiotics before birth due to GBS which I managed to get. They also started induction hormone drip. I had the first to doses with no effect at all. Not even a twinge of a contraction. This meant the new dr of the day shift decided to do another internal examination and prescribed a third dose of the hormone drip at 12midday. Still no contraction which totally baffled the midwife as she said they almost never gave a second or even third dose. That did the trick though.
By 1pm I was having back to back contractions, went from 0 to 100 in minutes. I cried like a baby from the pain plus with the gas and air I felt dizzy and delirious. My labour lasted just 55mins. Midwife was definitely not expecting it. She kept insisting I go to the toilet as I was made to drink tons of water during induction. I told her I couldn’t move in between my contractions.
She insisted still that i go to the toilet at which point I got off the bed then had another contraction and the urge to push kicked in. I literally peed all over the floor (so so embarrassing) as I couldn’t move and felt like pushing.
Midwife realised I was pushing and rushed me back in bed. I just about managed to get back on the bed before my tiny 2.4kg baby literally flew out. Crazy pain but worth every minute.
I was induced at at 37+5 due to developing preeclampsia, pessary given at 4.30am Tuesday, waters broke at around 8.30pm was only 2cm dilated with strong contractions so was given pethidine at 9pm woke at 11pm needing to push but midwifes said it was to early and wanted to put me on monitor to see how baby was doing but managed to persuade them to take me to delivery unit instead and was told i WAS ready to push:) and at 2.06 am Wednesday my little girl was here
I was induced at 37wks due to pre eclampsia I felt that my baby was still weeks away from being born naturally. I was given a pessary at 10pm which I had for 24hrs then another after that one cervix was still to high and not dialated they then started with the gel I was having small pains which went away after an hour then no contractions until next round of gel. Then at 11.50 going into the 4th Day my contractions were painful like unbearable then hey presto 10 mins at 12.01 my little boy was born just about made it to the delivery room as he was being born.
I was induced at 38 weeks due to pre eclampsia I had 6 pessarys in all over 1 week still no baby and no further on with my bishops score after getting very frustrated and threatening self discharge they decided to break my waters and get the drip up which I had been dreading then followed the epidural (which we realised when I started pushing hadn’t been switched on, wondered why I was still going mad on the gas and air ) approx 8 hours later I had my little girl the labour went ok it was the awful week before of pessarys that was the worst part xx
I was induced with my youngest daughter at 38 weeks because I had gestational diabetes and taking insulin. My daughter was measuring as normal throughout. I went in at 11am but wasn’t induced until 11.30pm due to labour ward being busy. 2 hrs after being started off I began to have contractions. 11.50am my waters broke and started on entinox. It was literally a foot down job to get me to labour ward, I almost gave birth in the corridor! Within 2 minutes of being in tge labour room my daughter arrived at 12.20pm, weighing in at 6 ib 9 ounces. I recovered quickly compared to 12 hrs with my eldest.
I had an induction at 40+1 weeks due to reduced foetal movements I had a pesserie witch didnt work. I then was moved on to the oxctocin (drip) this got my contractions goings but they had to break my waters after 25 hours I needed an epidural I had 4 in the end as they failed by 30 hours I was in agony and rushed in for a csection I only got to 5 cm dialated . My advice would be to eat plenty try to relax at the pesserie stage as if you have the drip prepare your self it’s fully blown contractions quick and strong take pain relief one midwife told me it’s alot… more painful than a natural delivary x and don’t be afraid if you can’t do it I’d take csection over a labour any day lol x
Induction started at 9.30 due to high blood pressure. Midwife gave me a stretch and sweep and accidentally broke my waters, she then put the first gel in. I was having a tightening every 15 minutes from then. At 17:30 I was taken to labour ward to start the drip, once that started I started having 4 contactions every ten minutes but baby’s heart rate keep dropping with every contraction. I got to 2cm after 6 hours on the drip. In the end I had an emergency c section where it was found the cord was wrapped around her neck, she had undetected meconium, she was back to back and in a funny position. My little girl was born at 00:10 weighing 9lbs perfectly healthy.
Hey everyone my little girl waited until 41+3 days till she decided to join this world. I was brought in on the Sunday at 8am. Given the pessary at around half 9am. Was left with it all day got mointored throughout the day every hour but no internals and discovered when change of shift at 8pm that night the pessary didn’t work has it had fallen out quite early on. After pessary was taken out I got a few back pains but they eased off. The next morning Monday was awake early at got breakfast at around half 7am. My husband joined me at half 8 to then be brought round to delivery suite. Drugs were inserted at around 9am and then waters were broke at 10am. Contractions started strong around half 11. I remember a message coming from my two best friends saying “I take the silence as good news” and the other saying “how are you keeping yourself occupied now” as that morning I was saying how bored i was without husband there. That last message came at 12pm and baby girl Olivia Rose was born at 2.01pm weighing 7lbs2ounces with gas and air and a bit of something else. Remember an doctor coming in and explaining some drug it wasn’t there afterwards I apparently pulled it out. She came in after and I was obviously on another planet because when she came in during labour I only see her green outfit. It was nice to see her face. The thing that I will laugh about for a long time is that my midwife gave me gas and air on the loo. Ladies just enjoy the first stage as it goes so quickly when drugs are in the baby is out in no time. X x
