Family Days Out 2018

Being a mum of 3 I am always looking for things to do during the school holidays.

Anything to keep the kids entertained and hopefully to tire them out so that they go to bed happily and allow mummy and daddy an hour of peace and quiet, ha.

Here are some of my favourite days out in the UK to give you a few ideas.

1. LEGOLAND Windsor

We took the kids to LEGOLAND Windsor a couple of years ago not knowing what to expect – theme parks had never really been our thing but the kids were desperate to go. We got an amazing deal which included 2 days in the theme park, plus overnight stay and breakfast for the 4 of us all for under £200! Seemed crazy not to give it a go at that price and I can honestly say that we were not disappointed.

The kids loved every single minute of it from start to finish. We went during the Easter holidays expecting to be stood in queue after queue but we were wrong. The longest we waited was 30 mins but majority of rides only took 10 minutes.

So if you’re thinking of going – do it! There’s currently an amazing short break offer on throughout May and June where KIDS go FREE and you get your second day free in the park- well worth taking advantage of.

2. Gibside – National Trust

Before I had children, I didn’t even know what the National Trust was. Since the kids were born I’ve had a family membership each year! Once you are a member you can visit any of the 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments gardens and parks and nature reserves around the UK.

My absolute favourite National Trust venue is Gibside in Tyne and Wear. The grounds are absolutely stunning with loads of little nooks and crannies to explore.

3. Forbidden Corner

Put simply the Forbidden Corner is amazing fun for everyone young and old! It’s made up of unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created within a four acre garden in the heart of Tupgill Park and the Yorkshire Dales. It can be a little scary for very young children but mine loved it – my youngest was 3 when we went.

You do need to book in advance as it gets extremely busy.

4. Cadbury World

THE day out for chocolate lovers! You get a full tour of the factory and learn all about how chocolate is made. Of course the best part is that you get to taste the chocolate as you go. What could be better. Another day out you MUST book. Worth doing in advance as slots can fill up quickly.

5. Battersea Children’s Zoo

Now this is a place I have never ever been to but have heard so many lovely things about it.

Right in the heart of Battersea park – you get to watch animals up close and explore the large sandpit, diggers, fort, life size tractor and fire engine.
