Colchester General Hospital Launch The Baby Box

For over 75 years, expectant mothers in Finland have been given a box by the government for baby to sleep in – The Baby Box.

Many people have said that this has helped Finland to achieve one of the lowest infant mortality rates.

It’s something which our mums over in the Bump, Baby & You Facebook group have discussed on many occasion.

Well today, one lovely member, Kirsty Louise Mason, shared her delight at becoming the first mummy in Colchester to be given a baby box thanks to Colchester General Hospital and The Baby Box Co. The box comes with mattress and cover and some other goodies too.

The UK Launch of The Baby Box at Colchester General Hospital

Having Finnish family myself, I know how well regarded these boxes are and hope that other UK hospitals will follow suit! Big hats off to Colchester General.

This is the info taken from The Baby Box Co website…

The Bed Box serves primarily as a safe, comfortable place for infants to sleep, similar to a bassinet. An ideal spot for the box is on the floor right next to the parents’ bed. Some parents prefer keeping their Bed Box in the living room or dining area so that their baby can relax nearby while the parents are busy with chores, meals, and so on. Finally, once the baby has outgrown the box, it can be re-purposed (unlike a bassinet) as a toy box or storage container perfect for storing all of the clothes that the baby has also outgrown. You can find out more at www.babyboxco.com
