October: The Start Of Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

This October we’re raising awareness, so gather your friends, family and colleagues for a ‘The Big Pink’.

All you need to do to support this event is to add some pink clothes or food to this Breast Cancer Awareness Month And take pride in knowing that ever penny raised will help Breast Cancer Care be there for families facing breast cancer.

Having a Sister-In-Law who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, I know first hand the devastation and uncertainty it causes when you are first diagnosed.

Thankfully, she had cancer for just ONE month. It was caught so early that she was booked in and it was removed at the end of that same month. We’re all extremely thankful for the NHS and their swift actions.

What Are The Signs?

  • Change in size or shape.
  • A lump or area that feels thicker than the rest of the breast.
  • Any change to skin texture, such as puckering or dimpling (like the skin of an orange).
  • Any redness or rash on the skin and/or around the nipple.
  • Your nipple has become pulled in or looks different, for example changed its position or shape.
  • Any liquid that comes out of your nipple without squeezing.
  • Pain in your breast or your armpit that’s constant or almost all of the time.
  • Swelling in your armpit or around your collarbone.

Although it usually occurs over the ages of 60, but men can be diagnosed with breast cancer too. Very occasionally affecting younger men.

Always contact your doctor or health provider the moment you feel there is any change in, on or around your breast.

If you’ve recently been diagnosed or want to talk to someone, you can call their free helpline at 0808 800 6000.
