Tips For Setting up a North Pole Breakfast!

Mummies and daddies, you may have heard of the term ‘North Pole Breakfast’, perhaps in the playground when talking to other parents, on Facebook, or through word of mouth. If you’re interested in throwing your very own North Pole Breakfast, or just wanting to learn more, this guide has you covered.

What is a North Pole Breakfast?

Usually thrown on the 1st of December (but it can be done at any time in December that suits you), a North Pole Breakfast is a fun way to celebrate the countdown to Christmas and get into the festive spirit.

It can also be combined with Elf on the Shelf (if you’re using the trademarked Elf), or ‘return of the elf’ if you’re using an unofficial version. – you can use your North Pole Breakfast to welcome back your elves and their naughty shenanigans! Not sure what Elf on the Shelf actually is? You can find out more in our handy guide here.

North Pole Breakfast Checklist

If you’re wanting to throw an amazing North Pole Breakfast for your kids, this checklist is really easy to follow and will help you to cover all bases. We recommend getting the following…

  • A festive table cloth, plate mats and napkins.
  • Festive themed mugs are a definite yes, as hot chocolate is a must have.
  • Festive plates, bowls and cups.
  • Christmas crackers for every family member.
  • Extra decoration touches like banners, streamers, confetti and balloons are a lovely magical touch. You could use streamers at the door to your kitchen/dining room and tell your children that it’s a magical portal to the North Pole!
  • Fake snow.
  • If you’re having your little one’s friends over and making it a party, party favour bags are a good idea! You could fill them with goodies like reindeer poop (aka chocolate), chocolate coins and candy canes.

Breakfast Ideas…

You could throw a buffet, or do a set menu – it’s entirely up to you. Here are my favourite North Pole Breakfast ideas; it’s meant to be a special treat full of foods you’d never usually eat at breakfast, but of course you can make healthier options and jazz them up a little!

  • Reindeer poop pancakes (chocolate chips of course…)
  • Waffles & syrup
  • Cloud eggs as they look like piles of fresh snow!
  • French toast with a frosting of icing sugar
  • Christmas berry porridge (red currants, blackcurrants, raspberries and strawberries are good berry choices).
  • Festive fruit salad (using red fruits) and whipped cream or greek yoghurt
  • Chocolate coins
  • Christmas themed cupcakes
  • Lots of yummy hot chocolate, with whipped cream and marshmallows of course. A sprinkle of edible glitter or gold on top would look amazing!
  • If you have a savoury loving child, cheese and crackers is a nice idea too – maybe with some cold cuts and croissants, and make a festive continental breakfast?

Festive Breakfast Tablewear

Napkins, tablecloths & place mats

As the North Pole Breakfast is oriented around the dining table, it’s important to decorate the table nicely as it’s the centrepiece! We’ve found these lovely napkins, tablecloths and place mats to help inspire you…

Festive Party Bags

If your North Pole Breakfast will be participated in by lots of people, why not make party bags? You could add in reindeer ‘poo’ (chocolate buttons or raisins), candy canes, normal party bag filler toys etc.

Printable Activities

As well as carol singing, exchanging the jokes in the crackers, and talking about your wish lists, these printable activities are a really popular pastime to enjoy during your North Pole Breakfast. All the family can get involved with bingo, and the kids can enjoy their activity books rather than leaving the table when full.

For Breakfasts Involving Elf…

If you’re welcoming back your elf this year, this mini party pack contains useful signs so that your elf knows what is going on, where their milk is, and can leave a note on their Elf Kisses card for your kids to thank them for the warm welcome! You could also download the printable set on the right and give your elf their own mini party at the same time.
