Dear BBY: My 10 Month Old Won’t Eat!

Dear BBY…

Hey everyone, in need of some help! my baby is 10 months old and over the past week she won’t eat being spoon fed, it’s a whole crying match!

If I put the food directly on her try she’ll eat it… I hope she’s going through a phase. But does anyone have any suggestions for dinner ideas that I don’t have to take ages to clean the high chair afterwards lol! Thanks! 🙂

Dear Mama…

Oh dear, what a conundrum! To me, this sounds like a potential developmental leap where your little one wants to eat independently. Have you considered transitioning to finger foods only and removing the spoon feeding (presuming you mean that you spoon feed her rather than her spoon feeding herself)?

This doesn’t have to be messy at all, I know you’re worried about the huge clean up mission afterwards! You could focus on drier/sauce free foods like;

  • Chicken strips
  • Vegetable sticks
  • Cheese sticks
  • Dry or lightly seasoned pasta shapes
  • Fruit segments
  • Sliced bread/crumpets
  • Sliced egg

These aren’t hard to clean up after (unlike a plate of saucy spag bol!), and would encourage her to eat more as she’ll have autonomy. I will add though that mess can’t always be avoided and different textures are great for sensory development. She is approaching the age where little ones start eating independently too, so don’t worry too much. I hope this helps!

Love from Katie. Xx
