As the school holidays get underway, some of us are thinking ahead to September!
It always pays to be prepared, right? Savvy parents everywhere will agree – avoid last-minute stress at the end of August by getting your children their back-to-school essential gear well ahead of time, and everyone will be happy. We’ve had a good browse for school essentials for our own kids, and just HAD to put together our ultimate back-to-school guide for you. So take a look at our favourite back to school essentials from the high street…
SCHOOL SHOES & TRAINERS
For good school shoes and trainers, you can never go wrong with Clarks! With classic Back to School styles from £40, plus FREE delivery on orders of £75, we are impressed with the huge range of styles available!
Clarks school shoes seem to live forever, and are renowned for being super supportive for developing feet! We’ve found styles to suit all tastes here.
We know that school uniform rules mean you may not be able to send in jazzy trainers for PE, so here are our favourite plain Clarks trainers – they look really comfortable, too! They’re perfect for hours spent having fun during PE with friends.
If you’re looking for a wide range of brands, then you will find them all at Schuh* – their range has something for every child! With both practicality and style in mind, here are our absolute favourite school shoes and PE trainers…
P.S. if you’re a student, you’ll get an additional 10% off!
For PE at school, you’ll need some practical trainers. Most schools have strict uniform policies, even when it comes to PE trainers, so we’ve picked out some plain yet stylish trainers that we think your kids will love!
Of course, we can’t forget to include school bags in our essentials guide! We’ve spotted some great backpacks and PE bags that we thought you’d like. Some schools insist on plain coloured bags so make sure you check the uniform policy before investing.
As well as a backpack your little one will also likely need a PE bag which can be left in school. These lightweight drawstring bags are perfect for this as they take up little room and are super easy to carry.
Most schools will have a specific supplier they use for their school uniform but these can often be a little more expensive. I have always bought my children’s uniform from the high street and / or supermarkets. My favourite place to shop for good quality uniform has to be M&S. They wash brilliantly and have a fab variety of styles. PLUS if you buy now you can get 20% off. This offer will end so make sure you buy now. I’ve also bought a lot of uniform from Sainsburys Tu over the years. Again the quality has been fab and they wash over and over without fading.
WATERPROOF COATS & ALL IN ONES
These fantastic all-in-ones are brilliant for keeping younger children dry on the school run. Even better they zip all of the way down so are super easy to get on and off even when wet. Regatta currently have an up-to 60% off summer sale, perfect time to get organised.
Again you will need to check your school policy but if your child is lucky enough to be able to take in their own stationery, then you really need to check out the 3 for 2 range at Paperchase. We love the zany designs and bright colours, and we know your kids will too.
WATER BOTTLES & LUNCHBOXES
Don’t forget to buy a water bottle! Gone are the days of shared water fountains in the corridor – even before COVID water fountains were few and far between. These days every child needs to take to school their own named water bottle. We would highly recommend buying one with a distinctive design to avoid little one coming home without theirs.
If you choose to send in packed lunches instead of school meals then you’re going to want something practical and fun. Paperchase have a great selection – we’ve picked some of our favourites below…
We hope that our guide on back-to-school essentials has helped. The most important thing to remember is to start early. There really is nothing worse than running around in the last week of the holidays trying to find an age 6 yellow polo shirt!
