Friday the 13th of September 2019 is Roald Dahl Day, a day dedicated to celebrating this world renowned, beloved author on his birthday!

Chances are, you’ll have read a book written by Roald Dahl at some point in your life, no matter how old you are or what country you live in. You may have even watched a film based on one of his books too. His stories are evergreen, tales that can be passed down through the generations and enjoyed just as much with each retelling!

Who was Roald Dahl?

Roald Dahl was a lot of things as well as a famous & beloved children’s author; he was a spy, a fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor. With that expansive background, we’re hardly surprised that his stories were so diverse!

He was born on the 13th of September 1916, in Llandaff, Wales, to Norwegian parents. He was named after Roald Amundsen, the first person to reach the South Pole four years before his birth, and he certainly lived up to the name by becoming an experienced, adventurous man, who had an uncanny gift for bringing magic to childhood stories.
