BREAKING: Baby Wipes Linked To Allergies

A new report, released today in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, seems to suggest that standard baby wipes could be a contributory factor in whether babies develop allergies or not.

During the study, the “recipe” for childhood food allergies was identified by the comparison of clinical data with identified genetic mutations which happen in humans, and experiments on young mice who were exposed to allergens.

Professor Cook-Mills, who led the study, stated that…

“They may not be eating food allergens as a newborn, but they are getting them on their skin.

Say a sibling with peanut butter on her face kisses the baby, or a parent is preparing food with peanuts and then handles the baby.

Reduce baby’s skin exposure to the food allergens by washing your hands before handling the baby.

Limit use of infant wipes that leave soap on the skin. Rinse soap off with water like we used to do years ago.”

As approximately 8% of British children suffer with a food allergy, and hospital admissions for anaphylaxis has risen more than 615 per cent in the last 26 years, this information is potentially groundbreaking and has enhanced our understanding of how allergies manifest early in our lives.

If this research has any basis in truth, this means that it may be best to use water based products…

  • Reusable baby wipes! Cheeky Wipes are pretty popular.
  • Cotton wool and water!
  • Some resourceful parents buy sheets of cotton, cut into pieces, moisten with water and use these as baby wipes. They then boil and wash them.
  • Lots of mums swear by WaterWipes as they’re 99.9% water, with a little drop of grapefruit seed extract.

Very interesting stuff! Tell us your thoughts in the comments…
