New Lockdown Measures - Scotland Ordered to STAY HOME

Scots are being ordered to stay home under new Covid-19 lockdown measures.

Schools will also remain closed to pupils until February with remote learning in place for most.

Boris Johnson will also address the rest of the UK tonight at 8pm.

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister said new restrictions would be introduced at midnight in a bid to contain the new, faster-spreading strain of the virus.

Another 1,905 new cases were reported on Monday – 15% of tests returned a positive result, something the First Minister said “illustrates the severity and urgency of the situation”.

Ms Sturgeon said that she was “more concerned about the situation we face now than I have been at any time since March last year”, with the new Covid strain now accounting for half of new cases.

The First Minister added that a “steeply rising trend of infections” are threatening to put “significant pressure” on NHS services, advising that hospitals could breach capacity within three to four weeks.

Scottish Island areas will remain in level three – but this will be very carefully monitored.

The fresh Covid laws will require people to stay at home and work from home wherever possible.

Gatherings are to be cut back with people only permitted to meet one person from one other household. Places of worship will be also closed and group exercise is banned.

These new rules will apply across the Scottish mainland until the end of January at the very least, and they will be monitored and reviewed closely.
