Toys R Us UK Goes Into Administration
Toys R Us UK has sadly gone into administration – the end of an era for so many of us who loved browsing the hallowed aisles as children ourselves.
All 105 stores will remain open until ‘further notice’, however administrators will be directing an ‘orderly wind-down’ as attempts to find a buyer have failed, and an unpaid £15 million tax bill was the final nail in the coffin. 3000 jobs are now at risk.
Joint Administrator Simon Thomas states that the reason for the failure of Toys R Us is primarily the growth of online retailers, which makes sense given the popularity of online shopping these days!
What does this mean for customers?
The administrators anticipate the closing of the website and online purchasing facility immediately; however, there is expected to be huge sales in store to get rid of stock.
Click-and-collect customers may still pick up reserved items if they are in stock. If not, liaise with your local store.
Gift cards and vouchers need to be used ASAP!
‘Time to pay’ reservations will be honoured so long as all items are collected by the 11th of March.
Deposits may be used against any other item in store by the 11th of March.
Loyalty cards and points may no longer be used.
