Tom Moore is to become a Sir!

by kloeforster

Did you hear the amazing news? Tom Moore is to receive a knighthood for his phenomenal fundraising efforts.

He is set to become Sir Tom Moore once he receives his knighthood from the queen. Over 1 and a half million people donated to Captain Tom’s 100 laps garden marathon and £32,795,520 was raised.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast this morning he said of the news:

‘ I am delighted and overawed by the fact this has happened to me,”

The 100 year old said he had been “given a very outstanding honour by the Queen and the prime minister” and he thanked them all very much.

He said he is ‘overawed’ that this has happened to him.

A message from Tom went up on his Twitter account this morning which read:

“A message from Tom; ‘I am absolutely overwhelmed. Never for one moment could I have imagined I would be awarded with such a great honour. I’d like to thank Her Majesty The Queen, the Prime Minister and the Great British public. I will remain at your service…

This started as something small and I’ve been overwhelmed by the gratitude and love from the British public and beyond. We must take this opportunity to recognise our frontline heroes of the National Health Service who put their lives at risk every day to keep us safe.”

Captain Tom was made an honorary colonel for his 100th birthday back in April.

He also became a double Guinness World record Holder as he become the oldest person to reach number one in the UK charts – with his charity single in collaboration with Michael Ball and The NHS Voices choir – You’ll Never Walk alone.

He also managed to get another Guinness World Record for raising the most money from a charity walk as an individual.

We definitely think you are absolutely deserving of your new title Sir Tom Moore!

Lots of love and a huge congratulations from Team Bump Baby and You xoxo
