Stephenie Meyer has announced the news Twilight fans have been waiting for – she will be releasing the latest instalment of the Twilight saga this August!
The book, titled Midnight Sun will be written from Edward’s point of view.
She wrote in an announcement on her website:
“I’m happy to announce that Midnight Sun is finally (very close to) ready! And will be in bookstores on August 4th. I hope this announcement doesn’t seem ill-timed; I really considered delaying the release until the world was back to normal. However, 1) who knows when that will be? And 2) you guys have waited long enough. Much longer than long enough, actually… So, I hope this announcement gave you some pleasure and something fun to look forward to.”
Stephenie wrote on her website:
“The more I wrote, the more I became convinced that Edward deserved to have his story told,” she wrote on her website. “At first I was planning to post it all here on my website, but I changed my mind for two reasons, the most important being that Edward’s version is much longer than Bella’s – Edward over-thinks everything.”
Stephenie Meyer’s four-book collection has sold over 100 million copies globally in over 50 countries, with translations in 37 different languages. Meyer was the highest-selling author of 2008 and 2009 in the United States, having sold over 29 million books in 2008, and 26.5 million books in 2009. In addition, the five-film adaptation took a whopping $3.3bn (£2.6bn).
There was some huge controversy back in 2008 when a partial draft of the Midnight Sun manuscript was leaked online. Meyer decided to postpone the release indefinitely, She wrote to her fans on her website at the time:
“I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published,”
“I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being.”
