Aww, we are so loving this story today – Captain Tom Moore has received his knighthood from the queen in a very special outdoor ceremony in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Capt Sir Tom, who was given the honorary title of colonel on his 100th birthday, initially set out to raise £1,000 for NHS charities by repeatedly walking 82ft (25m) loops of his garden.
He eventually raised £32,794,701 from more than one and a half million supporters and captured the hears of the nation while he was at it! He also broke 2 world records and had a number one single in the process of raising all of this money.
The Queen praised Capt Sir Tom, telling him: “Thank you so much, an amazing amount of money you raised.”
The 100 year old was joined at his special knighthood ceremony by his family – daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore, son-in-law Colin Ingram, grandson Benjie and granddaughter Georgia.
Mrs Ingram-Moore said: “It is just the most sensational day, of all of the things Tom’s been honoured by this is truly the icing on the cake.”
Sir Tom told reporters as he left his home for Windsor Castle today: “If I kneel down I’ll never get up again,” he also said “It isn’t everybody that gets the chance to see the Queen, is it? It’s going to be absolutely marvellous for me.”
A huge congratulations to Captain SIR Tom Moore – what an absolute treasure!
