The ‘Home Alone’ Reboot Is NOT happening – here’s why!

by Yvette Embleton

Did you think that ‘Home Alone’ was being rebooted? We’re sorry to disappoint, but it’s not happening- here’s why!

When you hear about a cherished 90’s films being ‘rebooted’, there are a few things that cross your mind:

“Will it be as good as the original?”

“Will it work as a live action feature rather than animation?”

“Oh, please don’t ruin my sweet childhood memories!”

However, when rumours surfaced about a Home Alone reboot, it’s fair to say that most of us welcomed the idea of watching a millennial Kevin McCallister unleashing slap-stick carnage on some bad guys! – light relief in difficult times!

Which leads us on to this absolute bomb-shell…

Film Director, Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa), has said the new storyline will see “Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney play a wife and husband who, in order to save their home from financial ruin, go to war with a kid (Max) who has stolen a priceless heirloom.”

Film insiders also told The Hollywood Reporter that while the new movie will draw comparisons to the Home Alone franchise, it will in fact have a completely different title.

They added: “The project is being labelled Home Alone due to the similarities in concept, but in execution the project will have another title.”

Is anyone else feeling a little cheated by this revelation?

So, it turns out we aren’t getting the reboot of Home Alone that we were all led to believe! We are actually getting a ‘reimagining’ of Kevin McCallister!

If you’re still interested in the film that’s actually being made, you’ll love to know what they’ve just cast their three lead actors. Their leading-lad who goes by the name of Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit, 2019).

It’s going to take us a little while to come to terms with the news that we aren’t getting the film we thought we were, however we still wish the Archie, Ellie, Rob and the rest of the team the best of luck and we can’t wait to see more family movies hit the silver screen!

Right – now how do we start a petition to get Home Alone actually remade!
