Parents and children across the UK mourned the loss of Toys 'R' Us when they went bust over four years ago.
We're so excited to reveal that Toys 'R' Us have CONFIRMED their comeback to the UK, with physical stores set to reopen and online sales expected to start within weeks. What perfect timing, with Christmas just around the corner!
Toys 'R' Us currently have 900 physical stores in Australia and New Zealand, and have confirmed that they are set to land back on our shores in 2022. According to Kidscreen, Toys “R” Us ANZ (Australia and New Zealand) will start selling products in the UK online later this year (yay) while they also work on 'establishing local teams and logistics facilities in the UK throughout 2022 and 2023'.

How Has Toys 'R' Us Been Able To Stage Their Comeback?
The news of a Toys 'R' Us comeback has been met with surprise given their fate in 2017 and 2018 - the firm filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and then proceeded to close UK stores in 2018. Earlier in 2021, WHP Global acquired a 'controlling interest' in the parent company of Toys 'R' Us, known as Tru Kids, and announced that they intended to 'focus on digital platforms. This was a smart move in hindsight given the pandemic increasing reliance upon e-commerce! Recent Data by the Office of National Statistics supports this move too, with data showing that online purchases account for over 25% of all retail sales in the UK, and this is set to rise to 33% by 2025.
Of course, a lot of revenue is also generated by physical stores and with the legacy and 'nostalgia' factor that Toys 'R' Us holds for so many UK parents, the move to also open physical stores is set to be an exciting and popular move. Do we have any 90's babies reading who remember trips to Toys 'R' Us being the highlight of their weekends and school holidays?!
